How to Get Into the Holiday Spirit…Alex Fillip

When radio stations start playing Christmas music, everyone knows that the winter holidays have arrived. Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Eid-ul-Fitr, Kwanzaa, something else completely, or nothing at all, December is a month of celebration and quality family time. For some people, getting into the holiday spirit is no simple task. Christmas is supposed to be a time of peace, love and giving. But with all stress of purchasing gifts and the commotion of the over-packed malls, many of us end up feeling more like Mr. Scrooge than Santa Claus.

In the United States, holiday decorations, music and festivities surround us this time of year. People are busy decorating, sending cards, buying presents, and attending holiday parties. What can you do if you are just not into the holiday spirit this year? Of course, you can choose to ignore the holiday spirit around you, but if you’re planning on going the usual winter holiday route, it’s said that the best way to get into the holiday spirit is to play Christmas music and watch Christmas movies. “The Christmas Story,” “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” are some of the most popular and traditional Christmas movies. If you want something extra special, take a group of your friends or go with your family to see Septime Webre’s The Nutcracker, which is playing at Warner Theatre from December 10th to 27th. Also, ABC Family’s highly anticipated annual 25 Days of Christmas features over 200 hours of Christmas-themed entertainment for the whole family which will run on a schedule from December 1st to December 25th. Every night in the month of December on ABC Family, a different movie will play. The selection includes “The Polar Express,” “Miracle on 34th Street,” and all of the Harry Potter movies. There’s something different for everyone to enjoy.

One of the undeniably best parts of the winter holidays is the break from school. Winter vacation is over a week long and – for some people – a much needed break from school and any other stresses. If you’re planning on staying home, decorate your house, bake some cookies and do things you enjoy. This winter season is an opportunity to celebrate and get into the holiday spirit with your friends and family.
